OVERHEARD

Ten different lives are examined in Russell Dobular’s new play “Overheard”. They are people whose occupations or stations in life put them on the edge of contemporary society. They are people you might encounter on the street or at a party, and your first inkling that their lives might make an impact on you or others around them begins when you stop and listen to what they have to say. Now they’re Overheard, and their lives are revealed.

There’s an avant-garde theater director; a young woman whose relationship with her man is threatened by her distraction with another woman; a barmaid who’s packed way too much dangerous experience into nineteen years; a young man who sublimates violent tendencies with a day at the beach; a nerd who snaps when being ignored at one more party; an immigrant European woman on a subway with a fascination for other people’s children; an actor who makes an unusual approach to the audience; a man who experiences a loss after encountering the magical powers of the Irish Hercules; a martial artist with a new religious philosophy; a woman whose dissatisfaction with the television programming she watches is indicative of more serious setbacks.

Portraying the diverse members of this bunch are Shirley Anderson, Richard Azurdia, Carla Jo Bailey, Stacy Chbosky, Liesel Kopp, Michael Lanahan, Mark Lewis, Philip Newby, Amir Talai and David Wilcox.

Playwright Russell Dobular’s other works include “HEAVY Fucking Mea-tal”, “Revolution a’ la Kramden”, and most recently, “Mike And The Bad Acid”. He has also directed over 20 productions in New York and Chicago.

Mark McClain Wilson directs “Overheard”. His previous L.A. directing credits include “Fiona’s Mane” for Vox Humana and pieces for the Sacred Fools shows “Naked Holidays” and “Fast N’ Loose”.New York and regional directing credits include “Burn This”, “A Company Of Wayward Saints”, “Sight Unseen”, “Solitaire Duet”, and “Seascape With Sharks And Dancer”. He has acted in over 50 plays and 20 films. Wilson has written several short plays and is currently working on the book and lyrics for a musical adaptation of “Deirdre Of Sorrows”.

“Overheard” tells the stories of people who will no longer be ignored. The show is in the late-night spot at Sacred Fools. Late at night, there’s still someone to whom you should listen, a voice to be “Overheard”.
