Announces its Next Production
The World Premiere of
OUROBOROS
Following on the success of the five month run of THE PAGANS (still running
through June 19th), the Ovation Award-winning Road Theatre Company will
produce the World Premiere of OUROBOROS written by Tom
Jacobson, directed by Michael Michetti.
Description:
OUROBOROS
is the story of two American couples that get caught in a chronological
palindrome on a trip to Italy. Stigmata, alchemy, adultery and St.
Catherine of Siena's severed head plague a nun and a minister in this
circular love story that is a comedy if performed forward – OUROBOROS:
A Nun’s Tale -- and a tragedy if performed backward – OUROBOROS:
A Priest’s Tale. The play will be performed both ways,
alternating weekends during the run.
The Playwright:
Playwright
Tom Jacobson, is one of L.A.’s most prolific writers having written more
than 50 plays, with productions across the country of such pieces as
TAINTED BLOOD, THE BELOVED DISCIPLE, and CYBERQUEER. Earlier this
year, his “SPERM” was a Los Angeles Times Critic's Choice at Circle X
Theatre Company and CONSERVING MELISSA premiered at Renegade Theatre
Experiment in San Jose. His Los Angeles adaptation of Chekhov's THE
CHERRY ORCHARD, entitled THE ORANGE GROVE, will premiere at Playwrights
Arena next February. He is the co-literary manager at The Theatre @
Boston Court, on the board of Cornerstone Theater Company and a founding
member of Playwrights Ink.
The Director:
Director
Michael Michetti is the Co-Artistic Director of the new Theatre @ Boston
Court in Pasadena, where he recently directed their inaugural production of
ROMEO AND JULIET, reset in Antebellum New Orleans in 1836, and the Southern
California Premiere of Charles L. Mee’s SUMMERTIME. A director of
plays and musicals, new works and classics, his diverse credits include the
celebrated production of Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents’ ANYONE CAN
WHISTLE(incorporating revisions made by Michetti and approved by the
authors) at the Matrix Theatre, David Hare’s AMY'S VIEW starring Carol
Lawrence at Florida Rep, David Mamet's A LIFE IN THE THEATRE starring Hal
Holbrook at the Pasadena Playhouse, acclaimed productions of Brecht's
rarely staged EDWARD II and Aphra Behn's restoration comedy THE ROVER, both
for Circle X at the Actor's Gang Theatre, and the Ovation Award nominated
productions of TITANIC for Civic Light Opera of South Bay Cities and
SWEENEY TODD starring Amanda McBroom and George Ball. He is a double
Ovation Award winner (as director and co-producer) for his production of A
MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, set in British colonized India. Michetti and
his productions have received numerous theatre honors including Ovation,
L.A Weekly, Los Angeles Drama Critics’ Circle, Back Stage West Garland,
and Drama-Logue Awards, among others.
This
is the second collaboration of playwright Tom Jacobson, director Michael
Michetti, and the Road Theatre Company. The last time this group came
together, the resulted was the unanimously acclaimed production of TAINTED
BLOOD – winner of the L.A. Weekly Award for Best Production Design and 7
ADA Awards as well as 3 Back Stage West Garland Award Honorable Mentions,
L.A. Weekly Pick of the Week, Back Stage West Critic’s Pick and
Kaleidoscope Radio Magazine’s Pick of the Year.

A Brief History:
With
the help of the City of Los Angeles' Cultural Affairs Department, The Road
Theatre Company has enjoyed an amazing thirteen-year history. During
the thirteen years the company's main stage productions have been honored
with 6 “Critic's Choice” selections from the Los Angeles Times, 4
“Pick of the Week” selections from L.A. Weekly, 7 “Critic’s Pick”
selections from Back Stage West, 53 Valley Theatre League Artistic Director
Achievement (ADA) Awards, 8 Drama Critics Circle Awards, 1 L.A. Weekly
Award, 5 Robby Awards, 27 Back Stage West Garland Award “Honorable
Mentions,” and 14 Ovation Awards. Additionally, the company was
awarded the Drama Critics Circle’s prestigious Margaret Harford Award for
Sustained Excellence in Theatre in 1999 and the Back Stage West Garland
Landmark Award for Sustained Excellence in Theatre in 2003. The
company has provided numerous community outreach programs forging strong
links to the community and creating valuable new audiences for the theatre.
